Current Parks Development Projects

The Parks Department will be working on the following projects through 2025. Click on the park name to visit each park's web page for more information, or you can locate them using MappMyCity

Ward 1

Oakwood Park
A new 
dog park at Oakwood Park, located directly behind Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex, was completed in fall 2023. The project included accessible asphalt trails and concrete pathways, drainage improvements, perimeter fencing, benches, and refuse silos. A new drinking fountain was added in summer 2024 to further enhance the space for park users and their pets.

Ward 2

Assumption North Park / Centennial Park - Lighting Improvement - Phase II
New lighting along the riverfront multi-use trail within Assumption North Park, between the base of the Ambassador Bridge and the base of Askin Avenue, was completed in summer 2024. Phase II lighting installation, extending from the base of Askin Avenue to the base of McEwan Avenue through Centennial Park, is now underway and expected to be completed in summer 2025.

The riverfront trail from Huron Church Road to Askin Avenue was resurfaced in 2024, with grass restoration scheduled for spring 2025. Phase II of the trail rehabilitation will continue with resurfacing from Askin Avenue to McEwan Avenue in fall 2025. This project, including both phases of trail upgrades, was funded in part by a grant from Trans Canada Trail to enhance Windsor's section of Canada's national trail. Visit TCTrail.ca to learn more.

Centennial Park
Construction is complete on the Centennial Park Staircase Rehabilitation at 1530 Riverside Drive West, between Campbell Avenue and Bridge Avenue.

Gateway Park
New outdoor bench fit signs are planned for Gateway Park in the fall of 2025. Installation of signs will start in November next to existing benches from Riverside Drive West to Wyandotte Street West. Stay tuned for updates.

Malden Park
The Windsor Salt Mine completed drilling in Malden Park in late 2024, and restoration of the grass and landscaping resumed in spring 2025. The off-road bike trails that were previously closed due to the project have now reopened for public use, with improvements completed on both the intermediate section and the Advance Flow Trail.

Mic Mac Park
Two important upgrades are planned for Mic Mac Park starting in fall 2025. The gravel parking lot adjacent to the Kimmy Lucier playground will be paved to provide a cleaner, more accessible parking area for visitors. Additionally, the backstop at Father Cullen Field will be replaced, with construction expected to be completed before the start of the 2026 baseball season.

Wilson Park
In spring 2024, a new double-lane batting and cricket cage was installed - the first of its kind in Windsor. This addition is part of ongoing upgrades supporting the Reimagined Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex project, which includes a new accessible playground, splash pad, sports courts, and upcoming facility expansions.

Ward 3

Alton C. Parker Park
Basketball court rehabilitation at Alton C. Parker Park is scheduled for fall 2025. During this time, residents are encouraged to use the basketball courts at Fred Thomas Park, which remain open and available for use.

Dieppe Gardens Park Lookout Area
New improvements to the lookout area are planned for 2025. The project includes new lighting along the south pathway, new railings around the lookout, a new concrete plaza surrounding the eternal flame, and rehabilitation of the south pathway.

Additionally, a new seating area has been completed at the foot of Dieppe, across from the Great Canadian Flag. This concrete seating area features benches generously donated by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MAAD) Canada.

Wigle Park
The new 16-stall parking lot off Mercer Street is now complete and open for use.

Ward 4

Stodgell Park
To continue with the recent improvements to the playground and parking lot, a new multi-use asphalt pathway with concrete pads and benches, along with a new pollinator garden, was installed. The removal of the washroom facility has been completed.

Lanspeary Park
The Lanspeary Greenhouses have been relocated to the new greenhouse facility at Jackson Park. Following two phases of public consultation, City Council approved a new conceptual master plan for Lanspeary Park in January 2024. Park improvements will proceed as funding becomes available, with public engagement continuing throughout the process. Visit the Lanspeary Park Redevelopment web page for more information.

Optimist Memorial Park
A new sidewalk was installed in 2024 behind the library to support the development of a community and pollinator garden.

Ward 5

Alexander Park
A new seating area featuring lighting, benches, and a monument honouring the Lebanese community is expected to be completed in fall 2025.

Ford Test Track Park
Improvements to the north parking lot at Ford Test Track are complete. Upgrades include granular surface rehabilitation, improved drainage, and the addition of four new paved accessible parking spaces. Please follow parking signs, as Parking Enforcement will be issuing tickets if vehicles are parked incorrectly.

Francois Court Park
A new playground has been installed to replace the playground that was previously damaged by vandalism.

Garry Dugal Park
Sports court improvements are to be completed in fall 2025, weather permitting, and include resurfacing the existing two tennis courts and the basketball court. The project also involves the installation of new tennis nets, and the application of crisp boundary lines.

Robert McDonald Park
Design is underway for a new multi-use trail with lighting and benches. Construction is planned to begin in spring 2026.

Ward 6

Homesite Park
New protective baseball nets and poles will be installed at Diamond #2 to protect the parking lot and adjacent residential homes in the spring 2026.

Tranby Park
A new shade structure and shade table have now been installed around the playground.

Ward 7

Elizabeth Kishkon Park
A new off-leash dog park has been constructed, with reseeding planned for fall 2025. A multi-use trail now connects the park to Little River Boulevard, and construction of a new four-season washroom facility was completed in spring 2025.

McHugh Park
A new artificial turf field is currently being constructed to replace the existing natural grass field at Field #2 at the McHugh Park Soccer Complex. The project is currently under construction for completion by early December 2025.

Peche Island
Design and construction of a new floating timber bridge is now complete. The bridge connecting both sides of the canal on Peche Island is estimated to be installed in spring 2026 when higher water levels return. The old structure will be removed at the same time.

Shanfield Shores Park
Trail rehabilitation is set to start in fall of 2025. The park will remain open, and the construction area will be fenced off.

Ward 8

Derwent Park
A full-size cricket field has been constructed at Derwent Park, with opening for play expected in the spring of 2026. Announced in May 2022, this will be the City's first full-size field and third field overall. For more information, please visit the Derwent Park web page or contact 311.

Fontainebleau Park
Construction of a new shade structure with picnic tables was completed in the summer of 2024.

Kinsmen Norman Road Park
Following public consultation, a park redevelopment concept plan was developed in 2024 featuring a basketball court, shaded picnic area, outdoor fitness equipment, pathways, lighting, trees, and benches. The City is now proceeding with a proposed rezoning to create six residential lots, with proceeds funding the planned improvements. Ward 9

Walker Homesite Park and Bike Trail
Trail improvements include Walker Homesite Bike Trail between Calderwood Avenue northward, including the repaving and widening of the multi-use trail within Walker Homesite Park. A master plan for Walker Homesite Park was endorsed by City Council on September 23, 2024. Visit the Walker Homesite Park web page for more information.

Ward 10

Bellewood Park
Tennis court improvements are to be completed in fall 2025, weather permitting, and include resurfacing the existing two tennis courts. The project also involves the installation of new tennis nets, and the application of crisp boundary lines.

Remington Booster Park
Sports court improvements were completed in 2024 and included resurfacing the existing basketball court, two tennis courts, and six pickleball courts. The project also involved fence repairs, installation of new nets, and the application of coloured surfacing with boundary lines.

South Cameron Woodlot
A new accessible playground was installed in 2024 as part of the Playground Replacement Program. In addition, as announced by Mayor Drew Dilkens in May 2022, a new environmentally sensitive multi-use trail is being planned for the woodlot. The feasibility study has been completed. Phase 1A is scheduled for spring 2026, pending grant approval funding.
