Emergency Child Care for School-Aged Children

The Province of Ontario has announced the provision and funding of Emergency Child Care for School-Aged Children, effective April 19, 2021, while schools remain closed for in-person learning. The City of Windsor Children's Services Department's plan for Emergency Child Care has been approved by the ministry.

Emergency Child Care is being provided to support health care and other frontline workers’ school-aged children while schools are closed for in-person learning. Child Care will be free to those identified on the Province’s List of Eligible Individuals for their school-aged children only. List of Eligible Workers - Emergency Child Care - April 2021

See the full list of Approved Licensed Child Care Centres and Licensed Home Child Care Programs throughout Windsor-Essex County: Approved Child Care Locations Windsor-Essex April 2021.

Please use the application and consent for Emergency Child Care below. Application must be made directly to the City of Windsor Children's Services Department via email at to ensure eligibility requirements are met, or call our intake line at 519-255-5312. (Please do not contact the child care centres directly.)

Please note:

  • Child care will remain open for the duration of these time-limited public health actions. This includes child care offered in licensed child care centres in home-based settings.

During this period when elementary schools are operating virtually, licensed child care centres will be prohibited from serving school-aged children. This means that all before- and after-school programs must remain closed where in-person instruction is not permitted in elementary schools. These programs may resume operation when elementary schools return to in-person learning.

The City of Windsor, as the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager, is responsible for planning and managing the delivery of community-based early years programs and services for children from prenatal to 12 years of age within Windsor-Essex funded by the Ministry of Education.

Should you require child care, please contact a child care centre and secure your space. If you need child care subsidy, please apply for subsidy online or call 519-255-5312.
