Extension: Targeted Emergency Child Care for School-Aged Children

The Province of Ontario has announced an extension to the provision and funding of Targeted Emergency Child Care for School-Aged Children that was originally approved on January 4, 2021, has been extended while schools remain closed for in-person learning until February 9, 2021. The City of Windsor, Children's Services Department's plan for Targeted Emergency Child Care has received Ministry approval.

Emergency Child Care is being provided to support health care and other frontline workers whose (school-aged) children are enrolled in school, in order to support these families from January 4 to February 9, 2021, while schools are closed for in-person learning. Child Care is being provided free of charge to those identified on the Province’s List of Workers Eligible for Emergency Child Care for their school-aged children only. "Appendix B - List of Eligible Workers EN - Revised January 10"

Approved Licensed Child Care Centres and Licensed Home Child Care Programs throughout Windsor-Essex County: "Approved Sites - School Age Emergency Child Care"

Please use the application and consent for Emergency Child Care below. Application must be made directly to the City of Windsor, Children's Services Department via email: childcare@citywindsor.ca to ensure eligibility requirements are met or call our intake line at 519-255-5312. (Please do not contact the Child Care Centres directly.)

Please note:

  • Child care will remain open for the duration of these time-limited public health actions. This includes child care offered in licensed child care centres, in home-based settings and by authorized recreation and skill-building providers.
  • During this period when elementary schools are operating virtually (i.e., from January 4 to February 9, inclusive), licensed child care centres will be prohibited from serving school-aged children. This means that all before- and after-school programs must remain closed where in-person instruction is not permitted in elementary schools. These programs may resume operation when elementary schools return to in-person learning, which is February 10, 2021.
