Sandwich Heritage Conservation District

The City engaged Stantec Consulting of London to carry out a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Overview Study and HCD Plan for the Sandwich community. The objective of the project was to provide an architectural and historical analysis of the Sandwich community with a view to establishing a heritage conservation district under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act, to help protect and manage the area's heritage assets over the long term.

The Sandwich Heritage Conservation District came to effect on October 19, 2012.

Commercial buildings within the Sandwich HCD are subject to heritage review, through the Heritage Alteration Permit process. View the Sandwich Neighbourhood Commercial Building Signs document for a compilation of excerpts of sign guidelines for buildings in the Sandwich Heritage Conservation District Plan and the Olde Sandwich Towne Community Improvement Plan.

The Sandwich Heritage Conservation District and other heritage properties in Sandwich are featured on on the Sandwich Heritage Walking Tour.
