Social Housing Programs
Social Housing refers to rental housing developed with the assistance of government and subsidized by Municipal and Federal government for people with low to moderate incomes; seniors; or people with special needs who can live, with supports, in the community.
As illustrated in the chart on the right, subsidies are provided to private landlords and independent Non-Profit Housing Corporations (known as housing Providers) who manage the day-to-day activities of the housing developments in the Windsor-Essex County service area, under five distinctive programs:
- Public Housing - 41 percent
- Non-Profit/Cooperative Programs - 28 percent
- Federal Programs - 24 percent
- Rent Supplement - 6 percent
- Aboriginal (Urban Native) - 1 percent
