The Community Development and Health Services Department, Housing and Children's Services, has an arrangement with two emergency shelters.
Shelter staff will complete a pre-assessment to determine eligibility for the emergency shelter program and will advise residents to obtain the necessary documentation prior to admission to the appropriate shelter. Shelter spaces are assigned on a first come, first served basis, and there are criteria, such as income testing, that must be met in order to access emergency shelter.
The emergency shelters are:
- Single Men: The Salvation Army Emergency Hostel for Men - Emergency hostel services for single men 18 years of age and over who are homeless are available at:
355 Church Street
- Single Women and Families: Welcome Centre Shelter - Shelter for homeless women and families is available at:
263 Bridge Avenue
