Opportunities for Charities - Closed

The City of Windsor is inviting Windsor-Essex charitable organizations to be a part of this year’s Bright Lights Windsor event and take advantage of special programming days. Applications are being accepted now.

Special programming dates will include Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:30-9:00pm, starting December 7 and running to December 28, 2018.

Charitable activations could include collecting clothing items, collecting non-perishable food items, activity by donation, i.e. craft/photo station, etc.

Application Process:

  • Deadline for Applications: Monday December 3 - noon

Conditions for Participating

  • Applicants must be a registered not for profit charitable organization.
  • Applicants must be based in the region of Windsor/Essex
  • Applications will be selected based on lottery (8 spots available)
  • Donations solicited by accepted organizations must be to support local people in need, regardless of race, sexual orientation, religious affiliation.       
  • Applicant must be signing officer to the organization.
  • Accepted organizations must be in attendance at the festival and must staff their own activation.
  • Accepted organizations must only host their approved activation.
  • A covered space will be supplied (10' x 8') for activation.
  • Accepted organizations are required to supply their own table, table cloths, chairs, etc.
  • Accepted organizations will be required to sign a vendor waiver. All food/beverage vendors will be required to supply a Certificate of Insurance upon acceptance.
  • The City of Windsor will evaluate each application and reserves the right to deny space or individual items in a space that does not meet the requirements or a conflict with another vendor. Any vendor found in violation of the rules may be removed from the event facility.

Call for Entertainers - Closed

The City of Windsor invites local entertainers to join in the celebration of Bright Lights Windsor 2018. 

Programming and activities will take place at Jackson Park between December 7, 2018 and January 6, 2019 at the Welcoming Gates with performances to occur on Fridays and Saturdays, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Smaller groups may fill the role of wandering minstrels and provide entertainment between 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Honorariums are available for participating entertainers.

Application Process:

  • Deadline for Applications: November 13, 3pm

Conditions of Participating

  • Applicants must currently reside in the region of Windsor/Essex.
  • Applications will be juried; jury decisions are final.                
  • Applicant must be a member of the entertainment and/or group.
  • Entertainers performing in the park without festival approval will be removed.
  • All accepted entertainers will be required to sign an artist agreement and waiver.

Call for Vendors - Local artisans, designers and makers - Closed

The City of Windsor invites local artisans, designers, makers and local food/beverage vendors to join in the celebration of Bright Lights Windsor 2018.

As part of the 2018 festivities, the City of Windsor will be hosting the WE Made It: Holiday Market sponsored by Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and in partnership with Urban Art Market & Rose City Etsy Team. The market will be a destination for visitors at Bright Lights Windsor to purchase items from local makers and artisans while enjoying local food amongst the spectacular backdrop of thousands of lights and stunning displays. 

WE Made It: Holiday Market will be open Friday and Saturday evenings 5:30-9pm starting December 7 and running through to December 28.

Vendor huts are individual wooden units that are approximately 10’ x 8’. Applications will be accepted for single vendor hut use or multi vendor hut use (max three vendors per hut).

Application Process:

  • Deadline for Applications: November 9, 3pm
  • Late applications will be received, but acceptance will be based on jury results and availability of space.
  • Priority access may be given to partners of the Tourism Windsor Essex W.E. Made It program. yqgmade.ca

Conditions for participating:

  • Applicants must currently reside in the region of Windsor/Essex.
  • Applications will be juried; jury decisions are final.                
  • Applicant must be the sole designer/creator/producer of the work being produced.
  • Accepted vendors must be in attendance at the festival and must staff their own booth.
  • Vendors must exhibit the type of work/items approved in advance through this process.
  • Each booth is intended for the accepted exhibitor(s) only.
  • Vendors sharing booth space, without being assigned by the festival organizers, will be asked to leave.
  • Successfully selected vendors will be required to provide a deposit of $25 per day. Deposits will be returned to all vendors post event.
  • Two-week cancellation notice is required to cancel without forfeiting your deposit.
  • All vendors are required to supply their own, tables, table cloths, chairs, etc.
  • All vendors will be required to sign a vendor waiver. All food/beverage vendors will be required to supply a certificate of insurance and business license upon acceptance.

Call to Artists - Warming Shelter/Art Installation - Closed

The City is seeking to commission a local architect, student of architecture, landscape architect, interior designer, artist, industrial designer or multi-disciplinary team to create 1 of 4 warming shelters that will be integrated into Bright Lights Windsor. The commissioned shelter must be installed no later than November 23, 2018. Applicants may apply to construct one or all four of the warming shelters with the deadline remaining firm.

Projects must focus on encouraging a unifying experience of people and represent/reflect our connection to the River and the Land. The final projects must utilize natural resources in construction and take advantage of natural processes in the design to create a heat source and wind barrier for the warming hut.

Eligibility

The competition is open to applicants living in the City of Windsor or within Essex County. Applications may be made by individuals or a group of collaborators (all collaborators must be residents within the region). Multi-disciplinary teams are encouraged including local architect, student of architecture, landscape architect, interior designer, artist, industrial designer.

Call to Artists - Public Art Installation - Closed 

The City of Windsor is inviting local artists to participate in enhancing and creating a Public Art Installation, which will be displayed as part of Bright Lights Windsor.

The City is seeking to commission an artist or artist-led team to create three new works of light based, sculptural art that will be integrated into Bright Lights Windsor. The commissioned artist(s) will have to have installed their project by the third week of November, 2018. Artists may apply for one or more of the locations (see locations below) with the deadline remaining firm.

Projects must focus on memory making opportunities for our community to experience a spectacular backdrop of thousands of lights and stunning displays, a wonderland shared with family and friends.  

Eligibility

 

Applications may be made by individual artists or a group of artist collaborators (all artist collaborators must be residents within the region). Please see Project Guidelines for detailed application and eligibility requirements.
