The City of Windsor's Department of Recreation & Culture routinely offers daily camp for professional activity (P.A.) days, week-long holidays, March Break and summer. Each of our camps is under the direction of day camp coordinators. These individuals have a passion for developing and implementing recreation programs for participants. In addition, each day camp counsellor is certified in Standard First Aid with CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) Level C and HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development. Additional training includes specialized training in recreation programming, Epi-Pen training, safety and emergency procedures, group dynamics and positive behaviour management. Our leaders are energetic and dedicated to providing participants with a fun, safe and memorable experience.

General Camp Information

Registration & Refunds

Registration for all summer camps begins for Windsor residents on Tuesday, April 30, at 12:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 3, at 12:00 p.m. for non-residents through www.ActiveWindsor.ca and The Centralized Registration and Booking Centre (519-255-1161). Community centre front-desk registration begins Tuesday, May 7, at 12:00 p.m. for both residents and non-residents. Registration closes at 12 p.m. on the Thursday prior to each week of camp. Registration spots are limited.

ePACT & Information Packages

ePACT is new to our camps and will be utilized to collect information packages for all participants. It is a secure online system used to collect participant information such as age, allergies, medical conditions, emergency contact information and approved pickup contacts. This information will be used by authorized staff to access important medical information and pickup information. Starting in the month of June, parents/guardians of camp registrants will be sent an invitation through email to enrol with ePACT. Enrolment in ePACT and completion of the information package must be completed prior to attending camp. No exceptions to this rule will be made. Parents/guardians can upload photos of their child and their approved pickup contacts directly to ePACT.

Junior & Youth Aged Camps

Junior-aged camps are offered at four locations, and youth-aged camps at seven locations. Junior camp is for participants aged 4 to 5 years old, and youth camp is for participants aged 6 to 13 years old. Youth-aged camps are often grouped into smaller cohorts to allow for more age-appropriate programming and increased safety and supervision. Staff-to-child ratios and activities differ between junior and youth aged camps. 

  • Junior Camp: 1 camp counsellor to every 10 participants (Field trip ratio is 1 camp counsellor to every 5 participants)
  • Youth Camp: 1 camp counsellor to every 15 participants (Field trip and swimming ratio is 1 camp counsellor to every 8 participants)

What to Bring to Camp

When attending our camps, participants are reminded to bring the following items every day:

  • Water bottle 
  • Sunscreen/bug spray 
  • Hat and sunglasses 
  • Proper running/athletic shoes 
  • Swimsuit and towel 
  • Backpack/bag to hold belongings
  • Change of clothes 
  • Lunch and food for morning and afternoon snack time

Kiss-and-Ride

Parents/guardians are asked to utilize our kiss-and-ride system at every camp location. Parents/guardians should follow signage upon arrival and remain in their vehicle until greeted by a camp counsellor. The counsellor will verify the participant(s) being dropped off/picked up and escort them to and from the camp program area.

Drop-off time is between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Our activities begin at 9:00 a.m. A late drop-off could mean that your child's group has already left their day camp home-base for their daily activities. Participants who are late and miss the kiss-and-ride drop time must be accompanied to the community centre front desk and be checked in for the day by a parent/guardian.

Pickup time is between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Parents/guardians can pick up before 4:30 p.m. but are encouraged to call ahead so we can have their child(ren) ready to go. Participants can be anywhere in the building/outside before 4:30 p.m. Parents/guardians are required to show photo identification (I.D.) to pick up participants. We have this policy in place to ensure participant safety. It is important that parents/guardians include information about any authorized pickup in the information package.

Late fees are applied if a participant is picked up after 5:30 p.m.

Special Events & Field Trips

Junior camps will be going on half-day (9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) field trips once a week. Youth camps will be going on full-day (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) field trips once a week. Participants must be at the facility by 9:00 a.m. – attendance and grouping will happen at this time. The bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. sharp – we do not wait for anyone! Participants cannot join the field trip after the bus has left the community centre – we will not be taking participants into our care if a parent/guardian drops participant(s) off at the community centre after the field trip/swimming bus has left the building and/or at the field trip location (unless communicated prior to field trip day) due to safety concerns. For more specific information about field trips, check your camp's calendar and look for weekly newsletters from your camp coordinator.

Swimming & Water Days

Youth-aged camps will go swimming once a week at one of the City of Windsor indoor pools. Participants aged 6 to 9 years old require a life jacket unless the participant passes a swim test facilitated by lifeguards. Ages 10 and up do not require a life jacket unless directed by a parent/guardian or if the lifeguard decides they should be wearing one. 

Junior-aged camps will be participating in a water day each week. Water days can happen throughout the week. Participants have the opportunity to play different water games, and/or go to the facility splash pad where applicable.

Participants must come to camp with a towel and swimsuit every day.

Snacks & Provided Lunch

There are two designated snack times throughout each day of camp: 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Lunch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. each day. 

Lunch is provided on Fridays – every child will receive two slices of cheese pizza. This cost is included in the Day Camp fees. We will accommodate dietary restrictions provided for us in the information packages. No other items for lunch are included (i.e., juice, chips etc.). If participants do not wish to eat cheese pizza, they may bring their own lunch. No lunch refunds will be provided. 

Typical Schedule for a Day at Camp

Our daily camp activities run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please note that the schedule provided is meant to show a brief overview of the time scheduled for activities; each camp group has their own schedule for each day. Activity schedules are subject to change. Days when a water day, swimming, field trip or special event takes place may look different from what is presented below. Major schedule changes will be communicated with parents/guardians. 

  • 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. - Kiss-and-ride drop-off, organized passive stations 
  • 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. - Morning announcements, camp cheers and group activity
  • 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. - Rotation 1: icebreakers and passive games
  • 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - Morning snack
  • 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - Rotation 2: active games, craft, science experiments, cooking activity, etc. 
  • 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Lunch and passive stations
  • 1:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. - Rotation 3: special event/outdoor exploration
  • 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. - Afternoon snack
  • 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Rotation 4: active games, craft, science experiments, cooking activity, etc. 
  • 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Clean-up and afternoon announcements
  • 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Kiss-and-ride pickup, organized passive stations

Late fees are applied if a participant is picked up after 5:30 p.m.

Camp participants will participate in recreation activities throughout the morning, including crafts, active programming, outdoor exploration, special events and more. The participants will be going to Adventure Bay Family Water Park every afternoon.
