Wellness Wednesdays Are Back — Igniting a Movement for Mental Health!
Wellness Wednesdays, part of the Canadian Mental Health Association - Windsor-Essex County Branch’s (CMHA-WECB) Mental Health Week, are back for another season in downtown Windsor!
"This Mental Health Week, we’re embracing the theme of Unmasking Mental Health — encouraging open, honest conversations about how we’re really doing," says CMHA-WECB Chief Executive Officer Nicole Sbrocca. "Wellness walks are a simple yet powerful way to support both our mental and physical well-being. Taking time to step outside, breathe deeply, and move our bodies can help clear our minds, reduce stress, and foster connections with others. Let’s use this opportunity to unmask, check in with ourselves and each other, and make mental health a priority every day."
Wellness Wednesdays started nine years ago to encourage employees of Caesars Windsor and the City of Windsor to take a healthy fitness break during their workday. Participants enjoy a 1-kilometre walk through the downtown along the riverfront and back to work, and teal is the colour of choice to show support for CMHA-WECB.
"Fitness has always been an important part of my life, so I know firsthand the benefits being active provides for both mind and body," said Windsor’s Ward 3 Councillor Renaldo Agostino. "Our bodies and minds work in lockstep to keep us at our best, and they can only do that when we give them the fuel and attention they need. Having City staff and all the agencies downtown walking together is good for us all — both physically and mentally. It’s also part of how we Strengthen the Core in Downtown Windsor, by inviting folks to see some of the exciting places and spaces we’ve been working to highlight and enhance. So please, keep walking every day. It benefits you, your colleagues and workplace, this neighbourhood, and our broader community. Thanks for participating in an initiative where literally every step matters."
The walk has grown over the years, with the University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Windsor Police Service, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, Detroit-Windsor Tunnel and Windsor Public Library all taking part.
