Commissioner of Oaths

The Council Services Department provides the services of a Commissioner of Oaths.  The Commissioner of Oaths is able to witness signatures for city related business and certain documents. 

This can be done on the first floor, 350 City Hall Square West, Suite 110. The cost for commissioning a document is $10.00.

We strongly suggest you call, the call centre at 311 to make an appointment.  This will ensure there is a Commissioner of Oaths available, and it will help determine if the Commissioner is authorized to sign your particular documents and what the applicable fee will be.

Documents witnessed/signed by a Commissioner of Oaths include the following (fees may apply):

  • Documents pertaining to City of Windsor business
  • Legal name change
  • Delayed statements of birth

A Commissioner of Oaths cannot witness/sign the following:

  • Wills
  • Living wills
  • Power of attorney
  • Divorce
  • Separation
  • Custody agreements
  • Passports or visas
  • Vehicle ownership changes
  • Canada pension documents
