What Is Yard Waste

Yard waste includes:

  • Leaves: mow or mulch prior to "bagging."
  • Garden waste: flowers, plants, vegetables and fruit.
  • Branches and tree/hedge trimmings: cut in 4-foot lengths and bundled securely (tree branches should not exceed 3 inches/7.5 cm diameter)
  • Grass clippings: must be dried and put in garbage cans. Do not put grass clippings in paper bags.
  • Ash Trees: Infected ash tree branches can be bundled, tied (4-foot lengths) and placed out for Yard Waste Collection. If you have ash tree logs, they can be brought to the Public Drop Off Depot for disposal (tipping fees may apply). Please do not leave logs at the curb as passersby might pick them up as firewood. Infested ash wood cannot be transported out of the quarantined zone. For more information, please contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 519-250-6546.

Yard waste does not include:

  • Clay - Clay is not accepted at the Yard Waste Depot. However, clay is accepted at the Public Drop off Depot. Clay is charged the same rate as Garbage.
  • Sod - Sod is accepted at the Yard Waste Depot. Sod is charged by the tonne at the commercial yard waste rate.
  • Tree stumps
  • Rocks
  • Soil
  • Sand
  • Concrete

Basic Yard Waste Information is also available in Arabic, Chinese and Spanish.
