The Windsor Civic Esplanade is one of Windsor’s greatest assets of public space in the heart of the city. It supports a wide variety of social, recreational and cultural activities, in addition to providing an important point of access to our new City Hall. Our goal is to create an inviting, flexible, multi-use and context-sensitive outdoor space that balances the needs of City Hall staff and users, our civic neighbors on the square, and those of the broader community.
All great cities have great outdoor civic spaces. These spaces help build and reinforce the community that uses them. They are a draw for public discourse, community events, official ceremonies and leisurely enjoyment. The City is committed to looking towards the future and continuing to find ways to improve our community, and this project is just one of those improvements.
Thanks to civic and external stakeholder comments and involvement, the consultant lead proposal for the design of City Hall Square and the Civic Esplanade has now been completed. We thank you for your time and participation in helping to shape the future of this stimulating urban space for the downtown of the city of Windsor. The design will be presented with a series of informative boards describing the proposed details on Monday, May 8, 2023, in Room 204, 350 City Hall Square West from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A brief visual presentation by FORREC will commence at 4:30 p.m.
