Urban Forest

Currently Essex County has less than eight percent forest coverage, the lowest in all of Ontario.

The City of Windsor Parks and Recreation is committed to protecting and expanding the urban forest. One of our outreach programs has a two-pronged approach to reach its goals: planting and partnerships.

Parks and Recreation plants hundreds of trees every year--in partnership with local environmental groups, Scouts and Essex Region Conservation Authority. Many of these trees are grown in municipal nurseries using local seeds.  The municipal nurseries provide native Carolinian trees that help diversify the urban forest.
