The City purchased the land for Elizabeth Kishkon Park (formerly Lakeshore Woods) from a developer in 1997. The park was renamed and officially dedicated in honour of former Windsor Mayor Elizabeth Kishkon on September 15, 2017. The Park has a parking lot, multi-use trails, fully accessible playground, a large open area and an ultimate frisbee field. The City is also planning for a new Dog Park.
Two woodland areas occur at the park. These areas are significant natural heritage features due to their size and relatively undisturbed condition within the city of Windsor. The woodlands are dominated by Eastern cottonwood, a tree species that likes their feet wet, indicating that the woodlands are storing water and providing flood mitigation services.
Other native tree species that can be found in these woodlands include Bur oak, Swamp white oak, Basswood, Green ash, Shagbark hickory, Red elm, and Black walnut. Native shrubs and forest floor plants growing in the woodlands include Stiff dogwood, Small-flowered evening primrose, Winged loosestrife, White avens, and Dotted hawthorn.
