Windsor Benefits as OLG Host Site
Today, the City of Windsor and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) reflect on another successful year of economic impact and benefits associated with being a host gaming community.
With the Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex in the background, and undergoing a significant reimagining process, officials gathered at Wilson Park to pay tribute and acknowledge the tremendous impact that OLG has had on Windsor across the past 31 years.
City Councillor Renaldo Agostino recognized the OLG for its continued investment in the city of Windsor through the Municipality Contribution Agreement. In fiscal year 2023-2024, the City of Windsor received $9,878,268 from its partnership with OLG. In addition, it was announced that for fiscal 2024-2025 year, a $9,514,363 contribution was received.
“Each year, the City of Windsor receives funding from OLG through Caesars Windsor,” says Mayor Drew Dilkens. “Today reflects over three decades of shared progress and commitment with opportunities to fund a range of infrastructure projects and community initiatives that positively impact residents across the city. The generous annual contributions have and continue to support everything from road improvements and infrastructure upgrades, to park enhancements, new playground equipment, recreational facilities, economic development initiatives and helping us keep municipal tax levy increases low. Thank you to our partners at OLG and Caesars Windsor – on behalf of City Council, the City of Windsor, and the community – for your ongoing support and investment. We are Building Windsor’s Future with a focus on investment, growth, and sustainability and this partnership goes a long way towards helping realize that goal.”
“OLG is proud to be a vital part of the City of Windsor,” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager. “Each and every year, 100 per cent of OLG profits are reinvested in Ontario to support provincial priorities. From critical infrastructure to important local programs, to community festivals and community grant programs, OLG’s profits are hard at work in the City of Windsor and all across our province to build stronger communities. We also appreciate the contribution of gaming employees at Caesars Windsor who are making life in Windsor that much better. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario.”
Since the city’s first casino opened in May 1994, the City of Windsor continues to receive an annual share of the gaming revenue generated from hosting Caesars Windsor through the Municipality Contribution Agreement with the OLG. To date, Windsor has received $131.5 million from this partnership.
