Municipal Services Impacted by Latest Provincial Orders

The Provincial Government has increased the level of restrictions on Ontario residents and their movement in an effort to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic’s third wave.

Stronger enforcement, travel restrictions, and public health measures are all being implemented to stop the spread of COVID-19 and save lives.

Municipal Services and Amenities Impacted

The City of Windsor is acting as quickly as possible to action the latest provincial orders, which took affect at 12:01 this morning, Saturday April 17, 2021.

“The modeling data released by the Province of Ontario paints a very dire picture. The entire goal of these public health measures is to help lower COVID-19 case counts and save lives. I strongly urge all residents to take this seriously and follow public health recommendations,” said Windsor Mayor, Drew Dilkens.

The following changes take effect immediately and add to the previous restrictions concerning parks, recreation, facilities and services. These latest changes are expected to be in effect at least until the expiration of the provincial orders, May 20, 2021.

Marriage Services:

Under the new provincial order the City of Windsor is able to continue to offer small marriage ceremonies but with a maximum of 10 people present. For information on ceremonies, visit the civil ceremonies page of citywindsor.ca.

Recreational Facilities:

The planned re-opening of the Lakeview Park Marina fuel docks and boat launch ramp has been postponed, as the most recent Provincial Regulation does not permit a Marina to be used for recreational purposes.
The boat launch in McKee Park and the small craft launches at Shanfield Shores and Stop 26 are open.
Roseland Golf and Curling Club and Little River Golf Club are both closed under the new restrictions.

Parks Amenities: Updated by Province April 18, 2021

Open, as long as two metres physical distancing can be maintained:
  • parks and recreational areas, including benches
  • playgrounds, play structures, and play equipment
  • off-leash dog parks
Closed (including but not limited to):
  • outdoor sports facilities, such as golf courses, tennis courts, basketball courts and skate parks
  • baseball diamonds, soccer fields and other multi-use fields
  • picnic sites and picnic tables
Parks staff are busy posting signage as a reminder of the provincial government orders and urge residents to respect these shutdown requirements. Trails and parks remain open for physically distanced activities such as walking, to promote physical fitness and mental health.

Virtual Spring Programming:

The City of Windsor is offering a variety of online programming including the “Home Alone” Program (8 to 12 years), “Learn to Babysit” (ages 12 and up) and Dance Classes for all ages, and more. Virtual tutoring is also available. Programs will be offered in the evening beginning the week of April 19, 2021. Residents are required to register in advance to be able to participate. Pathway to Potential (P2P) funding is available to eligible registrants.
