Changchun is the capital city of the Jilin province, and it is the second largest city in Northeast China; the metropolitan area has a population of approximately 7.6 million and a population of a 3.3 million in its city proper. The city has witnessed rapid development in the past few decades, and it has a reputation as China’s “Automobile City,” “Film City,” and “City of Science, Technology, and Culture,” as well as “Forest City.” Changchun is fast emerging as one of the modern international cities in Northeast Asia, with its strong industrial base, ample agricultural resources, sophisticated scientific research centres and technological infrastructure, as well as established educational centres. As a well-connected city, Changchun is the area's transportation core, with different modes of transportation connecting it to the rest of China and the world.

Over the years, there have been various exchanges between Changchun and Windsor that have strengthened and benefited our friendship. There have been efforts to develop more culture and business projects with Changchun, especially in regards to shared interests in the automotive industry and in agriculture. There have been multiple delegation visits to Windsor and joint initiatives in partnership with the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation. Also, in the past, Windsor delegates have been invited to attend race marathons, an International Agricultural Expo, and most recently the Mayors’ Forum, Entrepreneurs Summit and Sister Cities & Cooperative Cities Development and Cultural Expo conference in Changchun.
