My Save on Energy Pledge
On June 7, 2010 the City of Windsor endorsed the Power Pledge Challenge. In 2011, the name of the campaign was changed to My Save on Energy Pledge.
The Power Pledge Community Challenge (and Challenge Day) was a friendly competition between Ontario communities vying for bragging rights as one of Ontario's most conservation conscious communities. In 2010, more than 90 communities signed up to participate.
The Community Challenge is a collaboration of the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA), the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and their associated members.
The campaign acknowledges the long-standing leadership of the City of Woodstock, who began challenging municipalities to reduce energy consumption to mark the anniversary of the blackout.
What was the Power Pledge?
The power pledge encourages all Ontarians to take a few simple, meaningful conservation actions that will save money, save energy and help the environment.
The City of Windsor participated in 2 ways:
- Highest percentage drop in electricity consumption on August 11, 2010.
- Highest per capita participation in the Power Pledge drive.
2010 Power Pledge Results
In 2010, over 133,000 people in Ontario took the power pledge challenge. If everyone fulfills their pledge it will account for:
- Energy Savings: 293,178,957 kWh/year
- Dollars saved: $30,413,120/year
- Greenhouse Gases avoided: 64,990,613 kg/year
Why should I participate in the My Save on Energy Pledge?
- To learn ways to reduce energy consumption in your home and save money.
- Reducing energy use helps save our environment. Reducing energy consumption helps Ontario reach it's goal of shutting down coal-fired plants that contribute to poor air quality and climate change.
