At this time, the City of Windsor Building Department is experiencing longer than normal turnaround times for the permit review and issuance process.

Please consider the above when planning and applying for a building permit.

Apply for a Building Permit:

Before starting the online application process, applicants will be required to register as a user in the system. (This process is free.) Applicants will also need to prepare the following documents in portable document formant (PDF) to be uploaded into the application system:

  1. Building plans (floor plans, elevations and/or cross-sections)
  2. Property survey or site plan

Re-Submission For Permit Applications Applied for before July 26, 2021:

  • For permit re-submissions, please select "Form D" when prompted in the system and,
  • Have all required documents available in PDF form to upload.

Note: Payment notifications will be sent through email. Applicants will receive a "Request to Submit Payment" email that includes instructions on how to proceed with the online payment.

  • For a mobile sign permit please select "Form G" when prompted in the system and,
  • Have all required documents available in PDF form to upload

Obtain a Liquor Licence Letter:

  • For a liquor licence letter request, please select "Form E" when prompted in the system and,
  • Have all required documents available in PDF form to upload.

Obtain a Seasonal Non-Residential Private Property Patio Letter:

  • For a Seasonal Non-Residential Private Property Patio Letter request, please select "Form E2" when prompted in the system and,
  • Have all required documents available in portable document format (PDF) to upload. Required documents include:
    1. A site plan that indicates the proposed seasonal patio location on the property, noting the overall patio size and indicating the distance from the patio to any buildings and all property lines
    2. Copy of a valid "hospitality" business licence for the subject address

Issued 2023 Seasonal Non-Residential Private Property Patio Letters are valid between March 1, 2023, and November 30 2023. Important Note: The above criteria and process may vary for letter requests received outside of the above indicated dates.

Scheduling a Building Permit Inspection:

Three (3) options are available:
