Website Accessibility

Below is a list of tools built into this website, as well as some popular tools available within standard browsers to assist with optimal access to our information. Experiences may vary across different browsers, devices and operating systems. If you have difficulty accessing our information or have any questions about City of Windsor services, please contact 311.

Text Re-sizing

Text can be re-sized or zoomed within the tools or preferences of most standard web browsers, or you can increase and decrease the size using the following key shortcuts:

  • Windows: Control (Ctrl) and plus ( + ) to make text larger. Mac: Command and plus ( + ) to make text larger.
  • Control (Ctrl) and minus ( - ) to make text smaller. Mac: Command and minus ( - ) to make text smaller.

High Contrast

  • To view the website in high contrast mode, click the "Change Contrast" button at the top right corner of your screen. Click it again to return to standard contrast.

Simplified View

  • If using the Microsoft Edge browser, use Reading Mode to unclutter your screen. Hit the book icon in the menu to turn it on/off.
  • Or, in any browser, clicking the print friendly icon next to the header unclutters the page and allows you to re-size the page's text as well.

Translation

  • Use Google Translate to paste a page's URL address and pick another language to translate to. You can also paste text in to Google's translation page, if just translating a specific portion of text. For some languages, this offers a reading/narration service as well.

Magnification

  • Windows magnifier: Under your computer's Start menu, run “magnifier” and this will make your entire screen view larger. To stop using magnifier in most browsers, exit the program by clicking on the X at the top corner.

Narration

  • Windows narrator: Under your computer's Start menu, run “narrator” and this will read the content to you (works on other programs and other websites too). To stop using narrator in most browsers, exit the program by clicking on the X at the top corner.

Do you require an accessible format or communication support?

The Corporation of the City of Windsor will, upon request, provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats and communication supports for persons with disabilities. It will consult with the person making the request in determining the suitability of an accessible format or communication support.

Requests for an alternate format document

The City of Windsor will provide a customer who has a disability with a document or information contained within a document in a format that takes into account the person’s disability. Requests will be honoured in the most practical manner, depending on the media chosen; the size and complexity of the document; the quality and source of the documents; the feasibility of the request; and the number of documents to be converted. These factors will also influence the amount of time necessary to process a request. If it is determined that the format requested is not feasible, then alternative methods of providing the information should be explored to satisfy the customer’s needs.

To request an alternate format document an Accessible Alternate Format Document Service Request should be completed. To make a request call 311 or visit www.311online.ca and fill out an online service request. For an online request, click on Accessible Alternate Format Document. Requests for alternate format documents will be entered into the Customer Service Request system and directed appropriately for action and/or response.

Timing

Alternate formats will be provided within a reasonable time frame depending upon the request. Best efforts will be used to provide most alternate formats within 10 business days of the request being made once the document is available. Some requests may require more than 10 business days given the nature of the request. Some document formats require time to process and last minute requests will not be feasible.

Cost

Alternate formats will be provided at a cost that is no more than the regular cost charged to other persons.
