Make Family Day A Screen Free Day!

Healthy Kids Community Challenge is encouraging you to Power OFF and Play on February 19, 2018.

During Theme 4, Healthy Kids Community Challenge Windsor- Essex is focused on minimizing children's recreational and sedentary screen time, as part of a balanced day by following these three recommendations:

1. Staying within recommended screen time limits:

​Age ​Recommended hours of screen time
​Under 2 years ​None
​2-4 years ​Less than 1 hour a day
​5-17 years ​No More than 2 hours of recreational screen time
 
2. Putting screens away during important times of day (sleep, meal, and snack time)
3. Replacing some screen time with other activities (physical activity, social interaction and fun and educational activities)

Suggested activities to do on Family Day:

  • Screen devices in a bowlPlay a board game
  • Arts & crafts
  • Read
  • Play outside

Stay Screen Free on Family Day with Windsor Essex Communities In Motion (WECIM) Activities:

Windsor:

  • Free public skating at Lanspeary Lions Rink from 1:00pm-3:00pm and Charles Clark Square from 8:30am-10:30pm, weather permitting. There will be prizes and giveaways during both events.
  • Adventure Bay Family Water Park is open on Family Day from 10am-8pm, and guests 12 and under can draw a ball for a chance to win free admission. For more information on *pricing and Family Day, visit the Adventure Bay website.

*Windsor residents who get the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) and who have eligible incomes may qualify for a discount of 80% off admission to Adventure Bay through Windsor's Pathway to Potential program.

  • Free swimming at The Vollmer Culture and Recreation Centre from:
