Consult City Departments (required)

Each application must undergo the consultation process described below, prior to submitting the application. The exercise is intended to prevent oversights, errors, delays and additional costs in the processing of your application.  Also insure that the required drawing(s) are in compliance with the minimum standards established by the Committee of Adjustment and that the correct fee accompanies your submission.

Ask to speak with the staff member, noted below, who deals with minor variance/permission matters. Call ahead and set a meeting time. These steps are necessary to determine factors such as:

  • Whether or not a minor variance application to the Committee of Adjustment is necessary
  • The nature of the variance required
  • Whether or not there might be servicing requirements/limitations or land dedications involved with the given proposal
  • Whether or not an amendment to the Zoning By-law (see Building By-laws) is required, rather than a variance
