Permit Application Process

How long does it take to get a building permit?

The waiting period will vary depending on the size and complexity of your project. If you supply a complete submission and meet all the requirements, a very simple project could be completed the same day. For more complex projects, if you can tell us when you would like to have the permit, and we will try to meet your date. Always make your inquiries well ahead of the date required to allow for sufficient processing time.

The majority of permit applications are processed with little delay. Our Building staff will determine if your project is in compliance with the building code, zoning and other municipal by-laws and provincial regulations through a series of reviews.

Your completed application will be circulated for review within the department before a permit can be issued. There may be requirements that you must meet at various stages of the project. If staff requires additional information or clarification when reviewing your application, you will be contacted. Any required revisions must then be submitted to the Planning & Building Services Department to be added to the circulating plans.

When the permit is ready to be issued, the Planning & Building Services Department will contact the applicant. The building permit can then be picked up, upon payment of permit fees and deposits.

Note: This permit must be on site for all inspections.
