Mayor’s Youth Leadership Team
Meet the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Team!
This dynamic, diverse, and driven group of young people are chosen from our community to be leaders for their peers and to bring a youth perspective to the Mayor’s Office.
The members will be inspired, educated, and empowered to make a difference in our community through training sessions with local experts, volunteerism for City and Mayor’s initiatives, and project coordination to practice new skills.
The goals of the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Team are to foster the following:
Civic engagement: Effective participation in the life of Windsor in order to improve conditions for others and to help shape the community’s future
Leadership: The ability to motivate other people to act towards achieving a common goal
Employability: A set of achievements – skills, knowledge, and personal attributes – that better positions participants to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations
The call for the first Mayor’s Youth Leadership Team (MYLT) was sent out by Mayor Dilkens in 2015. His vision was for a unit of community-minded youth to be trained by local professionals in a variety of topics and then be dispatched to participate alongside the Mayor and the City of Windsor in welcoming thousands of visitors to our community for events, with special attention to the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships 2016.
Today, the next round of young leaders has been gathered to undergo personal and professional training to act as the Mayor’s ambassadors and to lend their insight into issues of concern to Windsor youth.
In this 2021-2022 cycle, watch for the MYLT at City events and initiatives, including the following:
