Windsor is a HIGH FIVE City

The City of Windsor is officially HIGH FIVE Accredited!

What is HIGH FIVE?

HIGH FIVE is Canada's only comprehensive quality standard for children's sport and recreation. Founded in 2001 by Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO), HIGH FIVE offers a holistic approach to healthy child development, based on years of research and validated by experts in related fields.

“Windsor is a city committed to a high quality of life for our residents, of all ages,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “The principles of HIGH FIVE and the impact of its training make a big difference in our community.”

Since the inception of HIGH FIVE in 2001, it has been recognized across Canada as the national standard for children’s recreation programs.

There are four key components to Quality Programming:

  1. Training and Development: insuring that at a minimum 75% of the staff are training in the Principles of Healthy Child development—Recreation and Culture in Windsor has approximately 87% of staff trained.
  2. Program Assessments: insuring all programs are assessed regularly—Recreation and Culture has evaluated over 225 per year, observing over 2,500 children enjoying recreation programs.
  3. Policies and Procedure: insuring that all policies and procedures reflect healthy development—Recreation and Culture annually reviews all standards and procedures for compliance – 94%.
  4. Awareness: ensuring instructors, supervisors and directors are aware and committed to moving children along the path of healthy development. Also included is awareness for participants and parents/guardians to be are aware of the types of programs that are the “best fit” for their children.

“Everyone in Recreation and Culture has worked incredibly hard for this,” said City of Windsor Corporate Leader Jan Wilson, “and we’ll continue to provide the type of quality programming and experiences for children attending the City of Windsor’s recreation programs.”
