Day Program at Windsor
Water World Remains Open but will Reduce Hours
The City of Windsor, in partnership with a variety of community agencies,
opened a day program at Windsor Water World back in April to help people
experiencing homelessness find a safe place to go during the day.
With Windsor now being in stage 3 of the provincial re-openings plan and
more public spaces opening up again, the hours of operation of the day program
are being adjusted.
“Over the 4 months we’ve been open we’ve seen 20 to 30 people use this
space each day, helping 340 different people in our community who visited the
site over 3,600 times in total” said Manager of Homelessness and Housing
Jennifer Tanner. “These numbers are starting to decline as more public spaces
open, so we feel a reduction in hours makes sense at this time”.
The facility will be closed Sunday, August 30, 2020 and then re-open on
a Monday to Friday schedule from 10am to 6pm each day.
Windsor Water World is located at 400 Wyandotte Street East.
Support agencies on site include: Canadian Mental Health Association,
Family Services Windsor-Essex Street Outreach Team, the CommUnity Partnership
and Housing Information Services.
Light refreshments and activities are also offered, while respecting
physical distancing requirements.
Those experiencing homelessness can also attend day programs operated by
the Downtown Mission and Salvation Army, which will continue to support their
clients 7 days a week.
