June is Bike Month - Discover the Joy of Biking in Windsor
If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to pull your bike out of storage! With warmer weather finally here, the desire to become more physically active is increasing – and taking your bike for a ride is a great option.
The City of Windsor is celebrating Bike Month with some exciting initiatives!
The 2020 Parks, Trails & Recreation Map is available online at www.cyclewindsor.ca, and print versions will be available soon at local bike shops in our community. The map will help you choose a convenient route that matches your comfort level. Often, the fastest route by car isn't the best route on bike: local roads and off-road trails can provide connections just for bikes.
The new bicycle parking area is now open in the Pelissier parking garage. Parking is located on the north end ground floor of the parking garage. Safety features include: lighting, covered area, security cameras, and attendants from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Residents must bring their own bike lock and spaces are available on a first come first use basis. This feature is free to use for the time being.
May 25, 2020 marks the start of “Bike to Work” Week. This is an annual celebration observed nationally, regionally and locally to promote, inspire and empower residents to take their bike to work. We encourage riders to take a photo with their bike and post to their social media using the hashtag #cyclewindsor2020.
The City of Windsor is committed to improving walking, biking, transit and other active mobility options through the Windsor Active Transportation Master Plan - Walk Wheel Windsor. This plan will provide more options for residents and help to improve their commutes around the community. View the full master plan on the City of Windsor’s website.
Please keep social distancing in mind while cycling. Give others the space to stay safe when stopping to talk and while riding.
