City of Windsor Utilizing Innovative New Public Engagement Tool

Zencity to help gather sentiment toward local services and community priorities

The City of Windsor is piloting the use of an innovative new public survey tool to gain insight from residents on the issues and topics important to them as well as their level of satisfaction with various services and amenities.

“We are always striving to engage our residents, and this partnership with Zencity will be a great conversation starter to further understand the needs and opportunities in our city,” said Commissioner of Economic Development and Innovation Jelena Payne.

The Zencity-powered community survey will be open to residents immediately through digital ads in various locations, including news websites, social media platforms, blogs, and apps. In addition, residents can find and respond to the survey on the City of Windsor’s surveys page.

Through these targeted platforms, Zencity is able to assemble a representative sample of the community and ensure that voices that might not be included in traditional survey formats are heard. The resulting survey data is then weighted based on the unique demographics of the community according to census data.

The survey will run throughout the year with information compiled and then reviewed by administration and shared with City Council. There will also be other, more specific project-focused surveys done in the coming months to garner feedback on key City initiatives.

Zencity supports community engagement for hundreds of municipalities across North America including engagements with Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa in Canada, as well as Chicago, Seattle, and San Diego in the U.S.

Survey Methodology

Zencity’s community survey incorporates voices from every corner of the community. To do so, Zencity sets response targets based on census data about the municipality and ensures the security and privacy of its data and survey respondents. Survey responses are anonymous, unless a respondent chooses to share their email address for follow-up purposes, in which case their survey responses are kept confidential. Zencity does not collect a respondent’s name, address, or any other personally identifying information. Zencity’s weighting accounts for the responses of every single person who answered a question. The responses give a proportional voice to all demographics (e.g., by age, sex, race, education level, and income level) based on the makeup of the municipality.
