Advertised Summer Programming Cancelled due to ongoing Public Health Crisis
The City of Windsor’s Recreation & Culture Department is announcing the official cancellation of advertised programming planned for the summer of 2020 due to COVID-19.
Recreational programming restrictions, social distancing and approved gathering numbers are all factors in cancelling this year’s summer programming.
“Even when the City of Windsor enters Stage 2 of the framework to reopening our province, recreational activities will be restricted at indoor facilities, therefore it limits the type of programs we can offer. Until we have more provincial clearance and a better idea of what we can and can’t offer our residents, we are disappointed to announce that the 2020 summer programming will be cancelled,” said Ray Mensour, Executive Director of Recreation and Culture.
Going forward, we will continue to monitor provincial re-opening approvals and plan opportunities accordingly and ensure the latest information is shared publicly through a variety of means including online at activewindsor.ca.
Reminder to Take Day Camp Survey:
The City of Windsor is investigating options to operate a modified summer day camp that would include a reduced capacity and other COVID-19 safety measures.
To accommodate social distancing in our local programs, modified camps would not include field trips but would incorporate more arts and crafts and host activities within a consolidated area to ensure everyone’s safety. Only a select number of centres may offer this opportunity due to COVID-19, and camps would run at a weekly rate of $151 per child or a daily rate of $33 per child.
The City of Windsor wants to hear from the community regarding these options. Please take our short survey by June 14, 2020 to provide input.
