Windsor Essex Community March in Motion Events - 2017

During March Break, Windsor and Essex County municipalities will be hosting "March Break In Motion" events. To promote the "Take Charge, Choose Water" message and to educate participants about the benefits of drinking water, reusable water bottles will be given out, while supplies last, to those in attendance.

A Zumba demonstration was delivered for 55 grade 7 and 8 students.

Each student received a Healthy Kids Community Challenge - "Take Charge, Choose Water" reusable water bottle, and other prizes were be awarded.

Free Public Skate in Leamington, October 2016

A Windsor Essex Community in Motion event delivered through the Healthy Kids Community Challenge took place in Leamington on October 8th. 

A free skate was offered to Leamington residents at the Kinsmen Recreation Complex in Leamington. Participants were given a free reusable water bottle to promote the "Take Charge, Choose Water" message.   

Kids Zumba in Leamington, October 2016

Another one of the Windsor Essex Community in Motion events delivered through the Healthy Kids Community Challenge took place in Leamington on October 5th.  

Youth in Leamington danced their way to fitness to the beat of popular music during a Free Zumba Kids class. Smooth moves (or not) fun was had by all! To promote “Take Charge, Choose Water”, everyone went home with a reusable water bottle to keep hydrated and the top movers won a t-shirt!  

Open Streets Windsor, September 2016

Open Streets Windsor took place on September 18, 2016 from 9am to 1pm.

Open Streets are unique events that have been held in over 100 cities in North America and involve the temporary closure of roadways to vehicular traffic, allowing people to use them for a host of healthy and fun physical activities, like walking, cycling, yoga, dancing and fitness.

Healthy Kids Community Challenge participated by promoting the "Take Charge, Choose Water" message and the use of water as the healthy choice for hydration.

Those who visited the Healthy Kids Community Challenge booth had their names entered into a draw to win a Family 4 Pack to Adventure Bay Family Water Park Presented by WFCU Credit Union.

Children's Fest, September 2016

The 2016, 22nd Annual Children's Fest, held on September 17 and 18 was another great success! The rain on Saturday required the event to close early, however the enthusiastic participation on Sunday made up for this.

Registered dieticians from the Windsor Essex County Health Unit educated participants about the benefits of hydrating with water and promoted the "Take Charge, Choose Water" message. They handed out 1,000 reusable water bottles with bookmarks detailing cleaning instructions for water bottles. Flavoured water recipes were also distributed to those who visited the Healthy Kids Community Challenge booth. 

Open Streets Windsor, July 2016 

Open Streets Windsor took place on July 18, 2016 from 9am to 1pm.

Healthy Kids Community Challenge participated by promoting the "Take Charge, Choose Water" message and the use of water as the healthy choice for hydration.

Those who visited the Healthy Kids Community Challenge booth 12 years of age or younger had their names entered into a draw to win a bicycle, helmet and lock. This prize pack was generously donated by Ted Farron from Ted Farron's Gourmet Butcher Shops.  

Essex Region Children's Water Festival, May 2016 

The Water Festival educates thousands of grades 3, 4 and 5 students about the critical importance of clean water to their future. This event is held annually the last week in May/first week of June at the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village.

On behalf of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge, registered dieticians from the Windsor Essex County Health Unit educated 1130 students about the benefits of drinking water.

Windsor-Essex vs. Lambton-Partners
Run. Jump. Play. Every Day.
Physical Activity Challenge, April 2016 

This activity was a friendly competition between Windsor-Essex and Lambton Partners.

During the month of April, residents of these 2 communities were encouraged to track their physical activity, in minutes, based on their participation in unstructured play, active transportation and/or structured sports. Activity minutes were entered into tracking tool at HKCC.wellchallenge.ca

The final count in physical activity minutes was:

  • Windsor-Essex - 88,088
  • Lambton Partners - 83,930

The real winners were the participants who accepted the challenge to be physically active. 

Universal Children's Day, November 2015

Healthy Kids Community Challenge participated in a Health Expo at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre Presented by WFCU Credit Union. Children who visited the booth were given information on the Healthy Kids Community Challenge and the importance of physical activity. They were encouraged to make a pledge to be physically active on a regular basis.
