How Is Rent Calculated?

    Utility Charges and Allowances

  • The rent-geared-to-income rent calculation makes provisions for accommodations that include or exclude utilities/appliances.  
  • If the accommodation rent does not include these utilities or appliances, an allowance is provided.
  • If the accommodation rent does include utilities, a charge is added to the rent.
  • These allowances and/or charges are based on a utility scale prescribed by the Housing Services Act, Ontario Regulation 298/01, tables 6 through 10 inclusive, and may be subject to change periodically.
