Mayor’s Youth Leadership Team

“Empowering Youth”

The 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Windsor is more than just an elite sporting event. Hosting a competition of this calibre will attract global media partners, sponsors, dignitaries and, of course, the best swimmers in the world.

With thousands expected to participate in this magnificent event, Mayor Drew Dilkens wanted to find opportunities for local youth to learn and grow from one of the most important swim competitions in the world. As a result, Mayor Dilkens launched the “Mayor’s Youth Leadership Team.” This team will be an iconic piece of the event and a legacy project for our community.

This first-ever initiative has inspired, educated and empowered youth leaders (ages 15 – 24 years) from our community. These youth leaders will participate on behalf of the Mayor and the City of Windsor in welcoming thousands of visitors from around the world, beginning with the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m).

The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Team (MYLT) has been meeting bi-weekly for training sessions in hospitality and tourism, goal setting, volunteerism, and customer service. Professionals from around Windsor have been educating the students on these topics, promoting networking and involvement in the community. The MYLT members have also been volunteering their time representing the Mayor and the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships at different events around the city. The goal of this program is empowerment: these young people are leading by example!
