Prior to Obtaining a new Taxicab Driver Licence
A mandatory English Assessment Certificate - Level 6 must be presented prior to registering for the Taxicab Customer Service and Safety Course. There are no exceptions. If the applicant does not have this certificate, they must make arrangements themselves, to test for and obtain this certificate. The applicant is then required to register, attend and write the exam for the City of Windsor Taxicab Customer Service and Safety Course. A passing grade of 70 percent or higher is required. The course (3 full days) and exam (4 hours) is held every other month and registration is accepted only in person and on a first come, first serve basis. Applicants must provide their EA Certificate (Level 6), a valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's Licence along with the payment of $90.00 upon registration. Applicant Requirements:
- Application - Taxicab Customer Service and Safety Course/Exam
- Application - Taxicab Driver Licence
- Proof of English Assessment Certificate (Level 6)
- Proof of passing grade from Taxicab Customer Service and Safety Course / Exam
- Current Class "G" Ontario Driver Licence
- Proof of Canadian Citizenship, Landed Immigrant Status or government issued Work Permit
- Current passport-sized colour photograph of applicant (New Only)
- Original Police Records Check Enhanced Screening dated no more than 30 days prior to date of application (First must attend Licensing Division to complete required document to submit to Police)
- Copy of Driver's Abstract (Driving Record that is Issued by Ontario Ministry of Transportation Safety and Regulations Division) dated no more than 30 days prior to date of application
- Photo ID card will be issued (renewed every 2 years)
- Drivers' Waiting List Application
- To apply for the Driver's Waiting List, an applicant must be a Taxicab Driver with a minimum of 2 years full-time employment (letter from employer required)
- Must be renewed yearly
