2011 Fire Fighter Recruitment - General Information

Please Note:  

  • The information contained on this website is meant to be a guideline geared towards assisting candidates interested in applying for the City of Windsor Fire Fighter recruitment.  It is subject to change pending various factors involved in the recruitment process, budget, etc.
  • The FAQ Questions have recently been updated to reflect the 2011 Fire Fighter Recruitment Process.  Information previously contained on this website regarding Fire Fighter recruitment may not have been applicable to the current recruitment process and should be disregarded.


To be considered for the 2011 Fire Fighter Recruitment with the City of Windsor's Fire & Rescue Services Department, the minimum requirements are:

  • At the time of application, individuals must be eighteen years of age or older;
  • Applicants must possess an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency;
  • Applicants must provide proof of a valid Province of Ontario Class "D" driver's licence with "Z" endorsement at the time of hire.


General Information

  • An applicant must successfully pass the OS Fire Fighter Test, the CPS Entry Fire Fighter Test, Physical Agility Test and required interview(s) (applicants will be informed of the specific dates, times and locations via email, regular mail and/or by telephone);
  • For vacancies occurring within this time period, applicants will be recommended based on the results of the tests and interview process;
  • If recommended for hire, an applicant's appointment would be pending receipt and successful completion of the following requirements:
    • Satisfactory medical assessment as outlined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards 1582 for Fire Fighters at the Corporation's expense; and any other testing and/or examination, which may be required by the medical practioner and/or determined by the City of Windsor; and
    • Satisfactory police clearance at your expense at time of hire; and
    • Proof of a valid Class "D" Ontario Driver's Licence with "Z" endorsement at time of hire; and
    • Proof of an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and any other education documents deemed necessary by the Corporation at time of hire; and
    • Satisfactory references from current and/or previous employers; and
    • Compliance with the Family Relationship Hiring Policy; and
    • Observance with the rules, regulations, instructions, benefits and any conditions governing employment with the Corporation as may be in effect at the time of recruitment and/or employment, or established by the Corporation of the City of Windsor at any subsequent time.

Please note, failure to complete or pass any step will eliminate an applicant from the current competition. 

Windsor Fire & Rescue Services may select and recommend a certain number of applicants as Probationary Fire Fighter recruits.  There is no guarantee a given number will always be selected during each recruitment period.  In fact, Windsor Fire & Rescue Services may not hire Probationary Fire Fighter recruits depending on budgetary and other factors.

Application to the 2011 Fire Fighter Recruitment is by an official on-line application form only.  The 2011 Fire Fighter recruitment application period is now completed.  Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
