Pool Installation Takes Nuts, Bolts and Brains
It took four shipping containers, one big boat and one long truck to get it here from Italy, but the 71-metre competitive pool is now installed in the Family Aquatic Complex. The structure includes thousands of stainless steel walls and buttresses bound together with 30,000 bolts and nuts.
“The pool took about four weeks to install, and we are now working on the plumbing and other mechanical/electrical work,” said Don Sadler, Project Manager. “And no, there is no water in it yet: That is the last part of the puzzle.”
The competitive pool and diving area will be open for the International Children’s Games in August 2013. Work is continuing on budget and on schedule with the official opening of the entire 144,000-square-foot complex scheduled for December 2013.
