The 2009 Special Olympics Provincial Summer Games came to Windsor from July 23-26, 2009. Several events highlighted these Summer Games, which hadn't been in the Windsor Essex-County Area since 1995!

Special guests of the 2009 Games included:

• Founder of Special Olympics - Dr. Frank Hayden 
• Members of the Windsor Spitfires, winners of the 2009 CHL Memorial Cup   
• Brian Anthony, International Pop and Dance Recording Artist
• A host of VIPs, including local Games Sponsors, Special Olympics Sponsors, Police from across Ontario, Mayor Eddie Francis, Windsor Police Chief and the Games Organizing Committee
