2006 Demographics
Data from Canada's 2006 Census, which took place on May 16, 2006, suggests
that City of Windsor's population grew by 3.5 percent between 2001 and 2006,
from 209,218 (adjusted due to boundary change on January 1, 2003) to 216,473.
The population of Windsor Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), which according to
Statistics Canada includes the towns of Amherstburg, LaSalle, Lakeshore and
Tecumseh, grew by 5.4 percent during the same period, from 307,877 to 323,342. This makes it the 16th largest metropolitan area in Canada, bigger than Saskatoon, Regina, Sherbrooke, St. John’s and Barrie, but smaller than London, Kitchener, and St. Catharines-Niagara, Oshawa and Victoria. During the same period, the population of Ontario grew by 6.6 percent, and 5.4 percent nationwide.
