The City of Windsor has developed and approved its first Environmental Master Plan. The views of residents are very important to the shaping of Windsor’s environmental future.

The Environmental Master Plan will assist the City of Windsor in identifying issues and developing decisions related to the environment.  Windsor has decided to lead by example.  The Corporation of the City of Windsor serves more than 210,000 residents and operates numerous facilities, and so its decisions and actions affect the entire community and have a direct impact on the environment.

The goal of the plan is to provide direction and a framework with the purpose of protecting and improving the environment within the City of Windsor.  This will be done in accordance with the goals and objectives established in the Official Plan.  The Environmental Master Plan will also be linked to the Corporation’s Community Strategic Plan and other master planning documents. 

The anticipated outcomes of the Environmental Master Plan process are:

• Streamlined City-wide environmental actions
• Improved environmental performance for the City
• Increased environmental awareness among staff and residents
• Reduction in overlap and gaps in municipal environmental service delivery

The Environmental Master Plan focusses on four topics: air, water, land and energy. It will be reviewed on a regular basis.
