Earn your wings - become a Snow Angel!

Once again, the City of Windsor is offering its Snow Angels program.  Snow Angels is a voluntary snow removal service for senior citizens and persons with physical disabilities. The program attempts to match volunteer snow shovellers from the community with registered clients living in the City of Windsor. In the past this has been somewhat challenging, as those needing the service have tended to outnumber volunteers.

Grab hold of those shovels and snow blowers - your community needs you!

The Snow Angels program is an excellent opportunity to help out in your neighbourhood and a great way for high school students to round out their 40-hour Community Involvement requirement.

With winter in full swing there's "snow" time to wait. Sign up now and let the shovels fly.

Anyone 13 years of age or older may volunteer for the program. A registration form (see below) must be completed and returned to the City of Windsor, Public Works. Upon being matched with a registered client, volunteers provide the following service:

  1. Clearing of snow from City sidewalks
  2. Clearing of snow at driveway entrances left by snow plows

Any snow removal beyond the tasks listed above is of the volunteer's own accord and not a City of Windsor Volunteer requirement. However, volunteers are requested to clear a path to the client's front door.

Volunteers deliver the service as they are available throughout the winter season.

To qualify to receive the service, you must be:

  1. 65 years of age or older, or
  2. under 65 years of age with a disability.

In addition, there must be no additional able-bodied adults living at the address.

Request for Volunteer Snow Removal Service:

New registrants will be put on a waiting list and contacted only if a volunteer becomes available.

If you are already enrolled in the program, you are not required to reapply each year. Before each winter season, you will be contacted to confirm your interest in the program.
