If you require a new collection calendar for this year, or if you have any questions about yard waste collection, call 311.
Basic Collection Requirements:
- Yard waste should be placed at the curb prior to 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Your scheduled collection day is indicated by the figure of a brown bag on your collection calendar.
- Do not set out yard waste prior to 6:00 p.m. on the day before your scheduled collection.
- To increase collection efficiency, please put yard waste at a common location with an adjacent neighbour, away from parked cars.
- All filled containers must be under 20kg/45lbs, except for Herby Curby wheeled containers.
- Basic Yard Waste information is available in Spanish, Arabic and Chinese.
Yard Waste Preparation:
- Leaves: mow or mulch leaves prior to putting them in an acceptable container - three containers worth will now fit into one!
- Branches, brush and tree/hedge trimmings: cut in 4 ft lengths and bundle securely. Tree branches should not exceed 3" (7.5 cm) in diameter.
- Ash Tree Removal: Infected ash tree branches can be bundled, tied and placed at the curb for Yard Waste collection. If you have large ash tree logs, they can be brought to the Public Drop Off Depot for disposal (tipping fees may apply). Please do not leave logs at the curb as passersby might pick them up as firewood. Infested Ash wood cannot be transported out of the quarantined zone. For more information, please contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 519-250-6546.
- Tree Stumps: Stumps of any size can be brought to the Public Drop Off Depot for Free Disposal.
- Grass Clippings are only collected in the spring and fall. Clippings must be dried and put in garbage cans. Grass clippings can be brought to the Public Drop Off Depot. If Grass clippings are brought to the Depot a Tipping Fee for Grass Clippings will be applied.
- Do not put grass clippings in paper bags.
- Try Grasscycling and composting instead of setting clippings out for collection.
- Any load of Yard Waste/Organics delivered to the Public Drop Off in a rental vehicle or trailer, or a vehicle with dealer plates will be assessed a fee at the commercial rate of $4.20 / 100 kg for organics. (minimum $4.20 charge applies)
Acceptable Yard Waste Containers are:
- Paper yard waste bags
- Garbage cans
- Cardboard boxes
- Herby Curby
