Sharps & Syringe Disposal
Sharps & Syringe Disposal

Never put any sharps, syringes, or hypodermic needles in your garbage.  The Essex County Pharmacists Association has implemented a sharps collection program involving Windsor and Essex County Pharmacies.

  • Residents who must use sharps should visit a local pharmacy and request a sharps container.  Please return the container to the pharmacy chain (such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall) from which the box was obtained.  In many cases ongoing medical supplies must also be purchased from these locations in order to qualify.  Call ahead to verify details with the retailer.
  • As an alternate, full sharps containers can also be dropped of at one of the following locations in Windsor:
    • Windsor Clinic Pharmacy - 130 Ouellette Pl., Unit 4
      (519) 419-1602
    • AIDS Committee of Windsor - 511 Pelissier Street, 1st floor
      (519) 973-0222
  • Your pharmacy will provide you with appropriate instructions for use of the container.
  • Syringes and sharps are not accepted at the Household Chemical Waste Facility.

Note:  this information is subject to change.  Please call the appropriate location listed above before visiting, to determine if the type of container you have is eligible for drop-off at that particular location.

If you find a needle on the public right-of-way, please contact 311 with the exact location and Public Works Department will send out a service attendant to pick up the needle.  It is recommended that you safely contain the needle in a container until the Public Works Department arrives, if you are able to do so (e.g. in an empty water bottle).
