Sharps & Syringe Disposal
Sharps & Syringe Disposal

Never put any sharps, syringes, or hypodermic needles in your garbage.  The Essex County Pharmacists Association has implemented a sharps collection program involving Windsor and Essex County Pharmacies.

  • Residents who must use sharps should visit a local pharmacy and request a sharps container.
  • When full, the sharps container can be returned to one of the following Shoppers Drug Marts in Windsor:
    • Shoppers Drug Mart - 500 Tecumseh Road East - 519-253-1115
    • Shoppers Drug Mart - 5415 Tecumseh Road East - 519-948-8108
    • Shoppers Drug Mart - 3950 Dougall Avenue - 519-969-2230
  • Your pharmacy will provide you with appropriate instructions for use of the container.
  • Syringes and sharps are not accepted at the Household Chemical Waste Facility.

Note:  this information is subject to change.  Please call the appropriate location listed above before visiting, to determine if the type of container you have is eligible for drop-off at that particular location.

If you find a needle on the public right-of-way, please contact 311 with the exact location and Public Works Department will send out a service attendant to pick up the needle.  It is recommended, if you are able to do so, safely contain the needle in a container until Public Works Department arrives.  i.e. place needle in empty water bottle, if it is safe to do so.
