Looking to dispose of that old energy-guzzling refrigerator, freezer, window air conditioner or dehumidifier?  The Appliance Retirement Initiative is offered by EnWin Utilities, through the Ontario Power Authority.  The following conditions must be met in order to receive collection:

  • Fridges and freezers must be at least 15 years of age, between 10-27 cubic feet and in working condition in order to qualify for this program.
  • Window air conditioners and dehumidifiers will also be collected as long as they are in working condition only in conjunction with picking up a fridge or a freezer meeting the conditions above.

Call the Ontario Power Authority's call centre at 1-877-797-9473 to have your appliance picked up for free as long as you meet the conditions above.

Residents can also bring their refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners or dehumidifiers to the Public Drop Off Depot.  At the Public Drop off, a fee of $15.00 is charged for items containing Freon.

All other metal items, not containing Freon, can be dropped off free of charge at the Public Drop Off Depot.  Learn more about Tipping Fees at the Public Drop Off Depot.
