Early Learning Activities
- Literacy development is at the core of our Ontario Early Years (OEY) program.
- Activity centres are designed around play-based, problem-solving activities.
- There are many creative and manipulative opportunities, as children are assisted by their parents, under the guidance of the Early Learning Professional in a developmentally appropriate environment.
Early Literacy Specialist
- The Early Literacy Specialist (ELS) provides support for literacy initiatives to Early Learning professionals in the community.
- Through the ELS program, parents and caregivers have the opportunity to take part in discussions and workshops throughout their role as the initial literacy teachers of their children.
- Various aspects of literacy are demonstrated to Early Years children in Ontario Early Years and Child Care Centres.
- The ELS researches current trends in literacy and creates and distributes materials throughout programming.
- Promotion of literacy throughout a variety of community projects and outreach events is ongoing.
- Call (519) 255-5200 ext. 5219 for additional information.
Data Analysis Coordinator (DAC)
- The DAC works with community partners (i.e. School Boards, United Way, Health Unit, the Offord Centre for Child Studies, etc) to conduct research and analyze community information relevant to early years development to help assess strengths and weaknesses in Windsor and Essex County. This is a new initiative; therefore, public reports are not yet available.
- The DAC also coordinates, on behalf of the school boards and the Offord Centre for Child Studies, the implementation of the Early Development Instrumsent (EDI), which gathers information about the school readiness to learn of the population of local kindergarten aged children.
- The DAC also collects information about the OEYC as part of the local provider's accountability to the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
- Parent feedback is occasionally collected through surveys.
- Call (519) 255-5200 ext. 5136 for additional information.
