Demographics

Data from Canada's 2001 Census, which took place on July 1, 2001, suggests that City of Windsor's population grew by 5.4 percent between 1996 and 2001, from 197,694 to 208,402. The population of Windsor Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), which includes the towns of Tecumseh and LaSalle, as well as parts of Lakeshore, Essex, and Amherstburg, grew by 7.3 percent during the same period, from 286,811 to 307,877. This makes it the 15th largest metropolitan area in Canada, bigger than Oshawa, Regina, and St. John's but smaller than London, Kitchener, and St. Catharines-Niagara. During the same period, the population of Ontario grew by 6.1 percent, and 4 percent nationwide.

The following tables outline the demographic characteristics of Windsor's population originally from Statistics Canada.
