Parks and Facility Operations
- Responsible for providing safe, clean and presentable park and green space, sports fields, trails, recreation areas, playgrounds, gardens and recreation buildings.
- Oversees 3,000 acres of green space, 180 parks, 40 miles of trails, 22 miles of sidewalk, 60 parking lots, vacant lands, natural areas and forest cover within the boundaries of the City of Windsor
Parks Operations
- Maintains 150 sport fields including 100 baseball diamonds, 45 soccer fields, 2 cricket pitches, 3 football/rugby fields, 35 tennis courts, and 13 lighted stadiums
- Manages automatic irrigation of our sport fields and gardens. More than 3,000 acres of grass are cut on a rotating basis
- Provides support to the multitude of special events in the City and manages the extensive fleet of specialized equipment
- Our 60 parking lots and 22 miles of sidewalks are cleared of snow.
Parks Development
- Provides corporate liaison from a parks perspective on long and short term planning for new park areas in subdivision agreements, green space enhancement, BIA streetscaping
- Provides technical expertise to community-organized projects
- Develops new parks, green spaces and streetscapes.
- Provides construction management of building improvements for 87 facilities, including daily maintenance and repairs by skilled tradesman on staff
- Manages 240 playground units, 42 miles of fencing, 40 drinking fountains, 70 flag poles, 500 picnic tables and 1,500 park benches
- Manages park water and sewer services, display fountains and sports field lighting
Forestry and Horticulture
- Responsible for civic leadership in urban forestry, civic beautification and natural areas
- Preserves and protects an urban forest of 60,000 street trees and 35,000 trees in Windsor's parks system
- Works in the formal gardens, boulevards, and riverfront areas, caring for 1,000,000 square feet of planting areas
